North West UFO Research

17th August 2009

Official openness to public concern or hollow official lip – service to pressing air safety issues

More UFO files released

Strange accounts of around 800 UFO sightings have just been released by the MoD.

The reports have been released in a joint project by the MoD and the National Archives to open up their records to the public.

All well and good, but are the authorities doing enough to investigate many of the abnormal things that are publicly reported in our air space that may pose potential danger to us?

North West UFO Research (NWUR) asked in 2008 if the Ministry of Defence had failed to properly investigate a potential hazard to Red Arrows aircraft crews and crowds of onlookers at the popular Southport Air Show in 2008.

http://www.ssgb.bravehost.com/ufo_research.htm

This unusual controversy occurred after NWUR Founder, Pat Regan, had inadvertently taken a picture of a Red Arrows jet. Later examination of the photo showed that an unexplained flying object also appeared to be in the frame and moving closed to the RAF plane.

The MoD told Pat that they have been advised by RAFAT (Royal Air Force Acrobatic Team) that there was nothing unusual reported by the pilots and no damage was sustained to their aircraft. No unusual circumstances were reported in their engineering logs. However, nothing was mentioned by the MoD about radar tracking or any analysis of the photographs Pat had freely provided.
Like Pat, Nick Pope, Ex-MoD expert of 20 years experience, was not impressed with the bureaucratic response
Pat had duly informed Nick about this somewhat lame response from the MoD. Nick subsequently stated to Pat:

“The MoD's response illustrates laziness and an inability to think outside the box. Such a mindset would never be tolerated in business but is, sadly, commonplace in the civil service. It's one of the reasons I resigned. I'm virtually certain that nobody's checked the radar, nobody's analysed the photos and nobody's shown the image to the pilots. They're simply relying on a negative (i.e. nobody reported anything at the time) and are using this an excuse for that most highly desired of civil service outcomes: NFA (no further action).”
Pat also informed the media at the time. This type of essential safety – related information concerns us all to a greater or lesser degree. Many other similar cases exist.
Should ordinary and concerned members of the public have to plead with our Air Defence authorities to get to the bottom of such issues - should we be forced into virtually doing their job for them by demanding that unidentified potential threats to our aircraft and residents be properly tracked and identified?

PUBLIC FEEDBACK REQUIRED.

Pat is currently in the process of writing a new book called - UFO.

http://canwritewillwrite.com/pat_ufo.htm

Pat invites any public UFO reports for possible inclusion in his book.
